Trail Wyandotte County Lake trail system
Overview It’s been called a rural retreat within the city limits. In western Wyandotte County you’ll find 1,500 acres of woodland surrounding the 400-acre Wyandotte County Lake. An approximately 19-mile trail system loops the entire lake, weaving through the hilly, forested terrain. Don’t let the length scare you off: You can walk or bike as much or little as you want. View the map (below) for numerous access points, then customize your journey. Expect to see waterfowl, boaters and serene surroundings.
Length There are 19 miles of trails in total. The Bridle Horse Trail generally runs parallel to bike trails built by the Urban Trail Co. They cross paths throughout the park.

Hollis Renewal Center: Explore a hidden valley in Western Wyandotte County
This private Lutheran Camp makes its trails open to the public.
Trail The Hollis Renewal Center
Overview The Hollis Renewal Center is a private Lutheran retreat that opens its trails to the public at no charge (though donations certainly help keep it going). The center’s website says: “You do not have to reserve a building to explore Hollis. The public is welcome to explore the Hollis hills for an entire day or just an afternoon. Simply check in at the Welcome Center and off you go!” You can also call ahead if you want to be sure it’s open: 913.441.0451. Wyandotte County is often viewed as monolithic urban density. But that’s just the eastern part. Western Wyandotte is characterized by rolling hills, woodlands and Kaw River Bluffs. However, there are few public lands providing opportunities to enjoy this environment. The Hollis Renewal Center has graciously made it possible for us to walk one of the most beautiful parts of this unappreciated part of Kansas City.
Length There are 5 miles of natural surface trails.
